Established in 1998, the Resident Opera Artist Program is primarily directed toward emerging professional singers.  Opera singers in the early stages of their careers audition to sing leading roles in PMMF mainstage productions and, at times, in touring operas.  Additionally, the singers may prepare a recital of opera selections and other vocal music.  They also participate in opera choruses.  As part of the program, these singers may receive individual coaching from a mentor; participate in classes covering such topics as acting, deportment, stage combat, career development and balancing  career and family; and attend master classes with PMMF principal cast members and others.

The ROA program is guided by Program Director Lucy Thrasher (Voice/Opera Faculty, Concordia College, MN) and Artistic Director Donald Schleicher (Director of Orchestras and Professor of Conducting, The University of Illinois).
